I got whiffs of Celtic and Eastern Orthodox by way of charismatic movement of late 60's early 70's. Good luck with your study of Teilard! Sometimes i let things bypass my mind and let it soak in with just sitting with it or in it. I also like his observation that collective experience (whether as a human body with differentiated cells, or a cosmic body with diversity of identity/experience) actually enhances the individual variations rather than diminishing them. To put it in a more homely context, I know who I am and what I believe in dialogue with others. I was librarian and was able to see books that were kept in the Faculty sections as well as the Students'. So I discovered this little book summarizing his thought long before Catholics were allowed to know about him. He has a wonderful idea that evolution of consciousness is leading us toward a kind of collective consciousness in which we remain individual persons but also experience being part of the larger mind of Earth and able to experience others' experiences in a heightened sort of compassion. I think that's what "loving excentration" is about. Good that we should continue to believe in progress and evolution. Without faith in it, it isn't going to unfold as well. Thanks for the reminder.Toby Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04092076392397501669noreply@blogger.com
